Materials needed

10g 8/0 Silver Lined Dark Red Seed Beads (S843C)
6g 8/0 Matte Metallic Gold Seed Beads  (ME832C)
5m Dark Red S-Lon Macramé Cord (SLC43)
1 x Glue in Hook Clasp(HKGP)

Tools required

Beads Unlimited Braiding Disc (BRD)
Sharp Pair of Scissors (SCIMX)
Strong Superglue (ZAP-1)
Bobbins (BOB1 optional)
Kumihimo Weight (KW45 optional)

Instructions

1. Cut your cord into 8 equal lengths.  Hold the strands together and tie the strands in a knot leaving about 10cm loose length.  Tie a weight to the loose end to create tension, something such as a bag of beads or pennies or alternatively clip on a kumihimo weight.
2. Take two of your cords and thread 45 silver lined red seed beads onto them.
Take one cord and thread 45 matte metallic seed beads onto it.
Take three cords and thread 45 beads onto each; threading 1 red seed bead, 1 gold seed bead alternately.
Take the last two cords and thread 45 beads onto each; threading 1 gold bead, 1 red seed beads alternately.
3.  With the number side of the Beads Unlimited braiding disc facing up, place the knotted end through the centre of the disc.  Hold the disc so that 32 is at the top and 16 is at the bottom.
- Place the gold thread between 31 +32,
- Place the red/gold/red/gold thread in between the 32 + 1
- Place the red/gold/red/gold thread in between the 7 + 8
- Place the red thread in between the 8 + 9 thread
- Place the gold, red, gold, red thread in between 15 + 16
- Place the gold, red, gold, red thread in between 16 + 17
- Place the red beads in between 23 + 24
- Place the red, gold, red, gold, red thread in between 24 + 25
It’s very important the beads are in the correct position, otherwise the pattern will be incorrect (Photo 1)
4.  Remove the cord between 16 and 17 (bottom left) and insert it between 30 and 31 (top left). (Picture 2)
5. Remove the cord between 1 and 32 (top right) and insert it between 14 and 15 (bottom right). (Picture 3)
6. Turn the disc anti-clockwise to the next set of cords.  Number 8 will now be at the top and 24 at the bottom.  Remove the cord between 24 and 25 (bottom left) and insert it between 6 and 7 (top left). (Picture 4)
7.  Remove the cord between 8 and 9 (top right) and insert it between 22 and 23 (bottom right). (Picture 5)
8. Turn the disc anti-clockwise to the next set of cords.  Repeat the braiding pattern of bottom left to top left and top right to bottom right.  Turn the disc and repeat the braiding pattern until the braid is roughly 2cm long AND the bead colours are back to the same as position as photo 1- this is very important, if the beads are not in this position, the pattern will not be made.

9.  Now you’re ready to add beads. Remove the bottom left cord, slide a bead up the cord towards the braid. Tuck the bead under the cord that crosses in front of it, then place the cord in the top left slot (Photo 6)
10.  Remove the top right cord and slide a bead up the cord towards the braid.  Tuck the bead under the cord that crosses in front of it, then place the cord in the bottom right slot.
11. Turn the disc anti-clockwise and repeat steps 9 and 10 until you have a beaded braid the required length.  Watch as your beaded pattern appear! (Photo 7) Continue braiding without beads for 2cm.
12.  Hold your braid from underneath the disc ensuring you have grabbed the very top.  Very carefully release the strands from the disc.
13.  Trim your plain braid down and test the fit of the clasp.  The clasp should hide the plain section of braid. (Picture 8)
 14.  Dab some glue inside the clasp and secure the braid inside ensuring all ends are neatly tucked inside the cap.  Hold the braid and clasp in place until the fastening feels secure.  Wipe off any excess glue from the cap.  Repeat with the other end.  Leave overnight to dry.
