Free Instructions: Place Name Pixies

Making place names is always a perfect activity for the kids to get involved in party planning! Pick up some pipe cleaners and wooden beads and make some pixies to hold your place names! Pick our metallic pipe cleaners for a festive feel, or stripy pipe cleaners to brighten up your dinner table. The lovely thing is, you can re-use your little pixie gang whenever you have dinner guests over! We used unvarnished wooden beads, these beads are wonderful ; because the are unvarnished, you can decorate them with sharpies, felt tips, paint pens etc. Hand made is the best!

Materials needed to make one creature

2 Pipe cleaner - we used the metallic mix ( PIPMMXX )

1 x 30mm Unvarnished wooden bead - ( WDCA30 )

Paper, pens, and anything to decorate your wooden beads

Tools required

a pair of old scissors, that you don't mind using to cut a pipe cleaner ( thin metal runs through the pipe cleaners)

Instructions

1. Take one pipe cleaner, thread it through your wooden bead, position it so the wooden bead sits in the middle of the pipe cleaner ( photo 1 )

2. Fold either side of your pipe cleaners up, both in the same direction, so the folds are right next to the bead ( photo 2 )

3. Bring the two sides of the pipe cleaners together, against the bead, and twist several times ( photo 3 )

4. Take one end of one of the pipe cleaners, roll it up to create a flat spiral ( photo 4 )

5. Take the other end of the pipe cleaner, pass back through the hole of the bead ( photo 5a & 5b )

5. Using scissors, trim the end of the pipe cleaner at the hole ( photo 6 )

6. Take your second pipe cleaner, pass it through the hole of the bead, so that the bead is positioned in the middle of the pipe cleaner ( photo 7 )

7. Fold either side of your pipe cleaners down, (in the opposite direction to step 3) so the folds are right next to the bead ( photo 8 )

8. Bring the two sides of the pipe cleaners together, against the bead, and twist several times ( photo 9 )

9. Take one end of the pipe cleaners, roll it up to create a flat spiral, at right angle to the flat spiral in step 4 ( photo 10 )

10. Take the other end of the pipe cleaner, roll it up to create a flat spiral. Make sure the direction of the spiral mirrors the spiral in the previous step ( photo 11 )

11. Adjust these two flat spiral 'legs' where necessary so your pixie can sit up, decorate your pixies face! ( photo 12 ). We used paint pens

12. Slot your pixies name in its top spiral, and continue making more pixie friends!
