Free Instructions: Ghost Earrings

Learn how to make a little beaded Ghostie for Halloween! We made two and made them into earrings because statement earrings are the best, especially when they are handmade! The movement of beaded fringe earrings are so lovely, your little beaded ghosts will dance away when you're wearing them. Just follow for free step by step below...

We made our earrings in size 11/0 seed beads

Materials needed for a ghost with size 11/0 beads ( smaller - what we used for our earrings photographed above ) 

5g Size 11/0 White Opaque Preciosa Seed Beads ( O1102 )

5g Size 8/0 Black Opaque Preciosa Seed Beads ( O1101 )

Beading Thread ( any of our beading threads are suitable for this project )

Materials needed for a ghost with size 8/0 beads (larger)

5g Size 8/0 White Opaque Preciosa Seed Beads ( O802 )

5g Size 8/0 Black Opaque Preciosa Seed Beads ( O801 )

Beading Thread ( any of our beading threads are suitable for this project )

Tools Required

A size 10 beading needle ( ND10 )

A sharp pair of Scissors ( SCIMX )

A beading mat ( BMT2 )

Instructions

1. Thread your needle with a comfortable length of stretched beading thread, pick up 2 white beads and move down to leave a 15cm tail. Loop around and pass back up through the first bead and down through the 2^nd bead. (Picture 1)

2. Pick up a white bead, loop around and pass through the 2^nd bead and then up through the new bead. (Picture 2)

3. Pick up 2 white beads, pass your needle under the thread from the previous row and up through the 2^nd bead picked up at the start of this step. (Picture 3)

4. Pick up 1 white bead, loop under the next bridging thread along and up through this new bead. (Picture 4) Repeat this step going under the last bridging thread.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 increasing your brick stitch rows by 1 each time. For the last row, add 2 white, 1 black, 1 white, 1 black and 2 white. (Picture 5)

6. Pick up 15 white beads (if you would like your ghost to be longer, pick up more beads-  we picked up 23 for ours) and drop them down towards your ghost body, skip the last bead and pass through all the other beads and the bead your thread was exiting at the start of this step. Adjust your tension on the length of fringe so that the length isn’t too loose, and you can see bare thread, but also not too tight so that the fringe length warps. Pass down through the next bead along. (Picture 6)

7. Repeat step 6 with 13 white beads ( or more then 13 for a longer ghost)

8. Repeat step 6 with 1 black, 3 white, 1 black and 10 white beads (or more then 10 white beads for a longer ghost )

9. Repeat step 6 with 3 white, 3 black and 7 white beads (or more then 7 white beads for a longer ghost )

10. Repeat step 6 with 1 black, 3 white, 1 black and 10 white beads ( or more then 10 white beads for a longer ghost )

11. Repeat step 6 with 13 white beads ( or more then 13 white beads for a longer ghost )

12. Repeat step 6 with 15 white beads (or more then 15 white beads for a longer ghost ) Then weave in and secure your threads  ( picture 7 ) - OR carry on to step 13 to make a loop at the top

13. If you want to add your ghost to a key ring, or any kind of finding, weave your tail up to the top of your ghost, and create a loop of 6 beads beads, then attach your findings.
