Free Design: Reflections Necklace

A classic necklace design, follow our free step by step instructions and make your own sequence of layered beads, enjoy how the bugle beads reflect and catch the light with their movement

Materials Needed

Approx 25g Black Rainbow Seed Beads ( RB301 )

Approx 500 x 2.4mm gold plated metal beads ( MTEA2432 )

1 reel of Black S-Lon ( SLC01 )

2 x 6.5 Metal Beads ( MTEA6532 )

2 x 4mm end caps ( CEA4GP )

Toggle Clasp ( TOG42GP )

2 x 8mm jump rings ( JR8GP )

Tools Required

A sharp pair of scissors ( SCIMX )

Jewellery Superglue ( ZAP -1 )

Chain nosed pliers

Beading Mat ( BMT )

Instructions

1. Cut a 60cm length of S-Lon, thread two metal beads, one bugle bead. Continue in this sequence, adding an extra metal bead here and there to create a sequence you like. We liked creating a random sequence! (photo 1) Continue until you reach the length you would like your necklace to be - minus 1.5 inches (to accommodate the length of the end caps and trigger that will be added at the end) end with a metal bead

2. Repeat step 1 five more times - we’ll call these thread Bs ( photo 2 )

3. Cut a 20cm length of S-Lon ( thread A ), thread it through one 6.5mm metal bead, pass it back through the bead to create a loop.  This will help you thread your 6 beaded lengths onto your 6mm bead

4.  Line up your 6 thread Bs, take the loose ends,  thread through the loop you created in step 3 (photo 3 )

5. Pull firmly on thread A, which will pull your  threads Bs through the bead  (photo 4 )

6. Pull the loose thread Bs all the way through the bead, and remove thread A  (photo 5)
7. Tie a knot with the loose 6 thread Bs ( photo 6 )
8. Repeat steps 4-6 with the loose threads at the other end of your necklace
9. Position your 6.5mm beads so they are snuggly against the smaller beads, and there is no bare S-Lon showing on the beaded lengths ( photo 7 )
10. Tie a knot with the loose 6 thread Bs TIP: before your tighten the knot, use a needle to guide your knot so it’s snugly against the 6.5mm bead (photo 8)
11. Trim the loose thread B next to your knots (photo 9)
12. Take an end cap, dab some superglue into it, then gently push your knot into the end cap so it sits snuggly against the 6mm bead( photo 10 ). Repeat this step at the other end. Leave to dry
13. Using chain nosed pliers, open a jump ring, link it to the loop on your end cap, and one half of your toggle ( photo 11 )
14. Repeat at the other end, with the other half of your toggle (photo 12)

You're finished!
