Free Design: Petite Peyote Necklace

A cute little necklace so you can practise peyote, and play with different colour combinations of seed beads! A fun mini project for beginners to bead weaving. Have fun learning how to make your own handmade jewellery!

Materials Needed for Blue/ Turquoise 

5g Size 11/0 Dark Blue Opaque Seed Beads ( O1142 )

5g Size 11/0 Turquoise Seed Beads ( O1125 )

Beading Thread - any of our beading thread will be suitable - we used KO Thread

An Assembled Chain - we used our curb chain ( CHE18GP )

Tools Required

A size 13 beading needle ( ND13 )

A sharp pair of beading scissors ( SCIMX )

A beading mat ( BMT-2 )

Instructions

A = Colour 1    B = Colour 2 

1. Thread your needle with a comfortable length of stretched beading thread, pick up 11 beads, alternating the colour - (depending on your design) We started with A and ended with A  Picture 1 ( or pick up 9 beads to make your pendant tube a little smaller, like we did for our blue / turquoise one)

2. Pick up 1A. Skip the next A and pass through the next B. Repeat down the length. Picture 2 

3. Pick up a 1A, pass up through the next B and the 2nd A. Picture 3 

4. Pass across and go down the 2nd to last A, the B again, the 1st A and the new A. This is the only time you have to make the turn this way. Picture 4

5. Work a row of Bs as normal. Then work another row of A beads, this time when you get to the end, pass your needle under the joining thread from the 1st row and go back through the new bead. Continue until you have 6 vertical rows (6As across, 6Bs across etc) ( picture 5 ) 

6. Fold your strip in half, you will notice that the sticking out beads will slot together. Thread through the 1st sticking out bead from the beginning, then through the bead at the end and keep alternating between the 2 sides “zipping” your work up. At the end pass up through the very 1st bead ( picture 6 )

7. Pass your chain through the beaded tube ( picture 7 )

8. Carefully tighten up your thread path from the previous 2 step. Or you may find it easier to tighten it as you go - ( after the chain has passed through in the previous step). Weave in to secure your thread and trim ( picture 8 )

We made another necklace and added some extra colours!
